Clubs & organizationsClubsPrior to 2000 most clubs were a direct part of New Atlantis, since that point they have been a mixture of parts of New Atlantis and separate companies or partnerships. Most also became service providers as well as receivers of services from service providers. More recently under the new economic model most clubs have been or are being split out either to be New Atlantis Trust Partnerships or packaged as joint venture consortiums. Most of these will be incorporated as companies at some point, or have companies that they offer services through. Organisations One of the strengths of the New Atlantis family has always been the mix of companies running as businesses and non profit organizations. In recent years most non profit organizations outside of New Atlantis have switched from relying on volunteers to having paid staff, and some perhaps have gone to the point that they are now run for the benefit of those who run them. The commissioning model has also been widely applied. We like other organisations have found that it has been far more difficult to get volunteers as the years passed and now many people just don't have the time to be able to donate it, as they did perhaps 30 years ago. The switch some time back to a commissioning model in part solved this, as well as reducing the waste caused by duplicating activities unnecessarily. As we move ahead, there will still be non profit organizations where the need is best handled by them, but in most cases the actual activities will be done by service providers under the commissioning model. We also have what is in many ways a half way house in the New Atlantis Trust Partnerships, these are often not incorporated, but exist just to serve other New Atlantis Trusts, although some are clubs. |
